I waited in the queue for a Palace season drop on Good Friday in the pouring rain, was it worth it?
Speaking to one of the security staff outside, I ask her why she works for Palace and what she likes about the clothing: “Oh I am just here with my agency, I am not actually into Palace, I know nothing about it”. This made me curious on whether her opinion has changed now that she works in Palace. However, to my surprise she replied “I get a decent discount but no... I am not cool enough for Palace, I’m more of a H&M girl”.
After that conversation I was looking around at who else was in the queue, and it was mainly older teenagers and young adults with their friends or parents. I heard voices from abroad, Danish and Italian in particular, indicating that people on holiday in England could come here to visit Palace Skateboards, which is understandable considering there are only stores in London, New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo.
Palace is situated in the heart of London streetwear, Soho. It is near similar shops such as Patta and Supreme. Even though it was Good Friday, London was still busy and not to my surprise, so was Palace. When I finally got into the shop most of the clothes that were released that day were sold out and the clothes that were available came in L or XL. Luckily I found a S and a M but they were the only ones left in that size, this reveals how much stock got sold that day.
The clothing line Thames designed by Blondey McCoy was also being sold there on one rack to the side of Palace. Most of the clothes there were very limited as most of it was sold out, as it has less drops than Palace. There was even a tennis dress by Thames X Fred Perry which was very pleasing to see because usually streetwear shops are menswear, so it was new to see more of a feminine fit in the store.
Overall, the Palace queue was about 10/15 minutes maximum for queue time and it was at 6pm, near the closing time 7pm. Despite the minority of clothing that was left in sizes S and M, there was still a decent amount of stock available for buyers. It was a successful drop.
