Interview with Callum Mullin

Meet Callum Mullin, aka @callummullin. Born and raised in London, the 18-year-old inspired by street wear, is currently taking a gap year after completing his A-Levels where he is spending his time modelling, clearly successfully, with over 9,000 followers on Instagram.

(@callummullin)

How long have you been collecting street wear?

Since I was 14.

What are your favourite brands at the moment?

Balenciaga and Vetements.

(@callummullin)

How would you describe your style?

I'd describe my style as wearing stuff that gets me likes and more followers.

How much do you spend on clothes a month?

Per month what I spend on clothes ranges from £20 to £500. It all depends on what's for sale.

What is the most you have ever spent on a piece of clothing?

The most expensive thing I've bought was some Saint Laurent boots that were reduced from £800 to £570.

How do you afford everything you buy?

I can afford to buy most things now due to the £2k that adidas gave me plus from buying and selling constantly.

(@callummullin)

Do you get a lot of private messages on Instagram?

I get a few dm's on Insta and I always answer them because I'm not stuck up unlike some other people.

Is there anyone in the industry who you look up to, or are inspired by?

I'm not really inspired by anyone, although sometimes I save outfits that I like or that have certain pieces in them, which I like.

What do you see yourself doing in a few years? What career ambitions do you have?

I have no clue what I want to do in a few years. I'll either have a Porsche or be in prison or dead or all three... (joking)

What do you love and hate the most about fashion right now?

I don't really hate anything currently. But I love the irony in fashion currently from brands such as Vetements, fashion is a great place at the moment.

(@callummullin)

When did you start to get large following on Instagram and what do you think provoked this?

Part of my large following is totally down to being friends with my friend Ceara who had 8k when I met her and now has 45k followers. She always tags me in pictures and I grew slowly but I have been growing at a faster and faster rate recently as the bigger you get the more people want to follow.

What are the benefits of having a lot of followers on social media?

The only benefit of having lots of followers is the validation you get, I love the attention and random people sometimes message me saying the nicest stuff, also I get model jobs and free clothes through Insta too which is how I got into the Alexander Wang X Adidas campaign.

How does it feel to be photographed by photographers such as Juergen Teller, who is famous for doing shoots for Vogue or with popular models like Kate Moss?

Juergen Teller was cool but I had an exam the next day so couldn't really pick his brain as much as I'd want to because I was revising on set. Overall though it is really inspiring being surrounded by people at the top of their game too.
